Plane with 62 on board crashes in Brazil

All 61 passengers and crew killed

Flight 2283 was en route from Cascavel to São Paulo when it crashed in Vinhedo

A plane carrying 58 passengers and four crew has crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, killing all on board, the airline has said.

The ATR 72 aircraft, operated by Voepass Linhas Aéreas, crashed in the city of Vinhedo, about 60 miles (100km) from São Paulo, on Friday afternoon.

The plane was on a scheduled two-hour flight from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to Guarulhos in São Paulo state when it lost contact with air traffic control shortly before 1300 local time (1600 GMT).

Voepass said in a statement that the plane crashed in a wooded area near a residential neighborhood.

Firefighters and rescue workers are at the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
