Giants, Matt Chapman Agree to Six-Year, $151 Million Extension

Chapman, Giants Reach Agreement

Third baseman Matt Chapman and the San Francisco Giants have reached an agreement on a six-year, $151 million contract extension, according to multiple reports. The deal reportedly includes a full no-trade clause and a signing bonus of $20 million.

Chapman, 29, was acquired by the Giants from the Oakland Athletics in March 2023 in exchange for third baseman/shortstop prospect Aeverson Arteaga and right-handed pitching prospect Manny Ramirez.

The three-time Gold Glove winner and two-time Platinum Glove winner is considered one of the best defensive third basemen in baseball. He has also been a productive hitter, batting .255 with 17 home runs and 66 RBIs in 2022.

Giants Bolster Infield

Chapman's signing gives the Giants a formidable infield, which already includes shortstop Brandon Crawford, second baseman Thairo Estrada, and first baseman Brandon Belt.

The Giants have been active in free agency this offseason, also signing outfielder Michael Conforto and reliever Trevor Rosenthal.

Chapman's Value

Chapman is a valuable addition to the Giants lineup. He is a strong defender who can also contribute offensively.

The six-year contract extension is a significant investment for the Giants, but it is a sign of their commitment to building a competitive team.
